Date Night in the City

On Friday, Brent and I met at a train station in the city and rode together over to the "West End".

We ate at this silly restaurant. The food was actually pretty Americanized (ice water with lemon served in Coca-Cola cups) except that the spices were wrong.

We found the entire concept of the place amusing. I wish I would have taken a pic of the back of the menu telling the story. It included tidbits of knowledge such as:
-Texas used to be its own country
-It had its own embassy in London, only a few blocks from the location of the restaurant
-"Today a lot of Texans consider their state a country" Huh?

Then walking to our destination, we saw this theater. Which is showing this musical whose original production was here.

Across the street was where we were headed.

We went to see this play. Starring these guys. Ahh!!

We saw a poster for the play at the train station a few months ago but had forgotten about it until recently. I tried to buy tickets online but they were "sold out". I called the box office a few days later and found out they had a few "severely restricted view" tickets left. I told the guy I wanted 2 and he said "You'll only be able to see about 1/4 of the stage". Um ok! I'll take them. As long as I could see Ian & Patrick at least walk through my line of vision, my life would be complete, so I bought the tickets.

When we got to our seats, we were pleasantly surprised by our view. Here it is via phone pic. I know it is a huge theater no-no to take a picture of the stage but I couldn't help myself and there was no flash and it wasn't starting for like another 30 minutes.

If you can't tell from the pic, we could see about 75% of the stage. I had been expecting to be sitting behind a pillar or something but we were on the extreme edge of the rounded balcony so we only missed the front left corner of the stage.

The theater is really cool and decorated as it was back it 1820 when it was built. I snuck another picture of the chandelier and the ceiling.

My souvenir was this £4 playbill. It's really shiny. Brent's souvenir was a £3 cup of gourmet ice cream during intermission. Does that sound like us or what?

The play itself was really odd and would have been SO boring had it not been for the subtle comedy of the leading men. I read several reviews online and serious theater snobs had complained about the amount of humor in the show but the reviews by people who went expecting to be entertained (not to have some sort of exestential experience) were very pleased. As were we.

And now, we have seen 2 of our favorite actors in person, doing what they do best, theater!

I am assuming you did not realize that "Waiting for Godot" is not only one of my longest running jokes with my group of KHS friends, it is also the punchline to most of our jokes. I've said it before and I'll say it again- YOU SUCK!!!!!

Sooooo cool. In my experience obstructed view is never too bad. :) Seeing theatre in the West End. That is a dream date for me, too.

I hate that play (we had to read it in highschool and I thought it was nonsense), but I might go see it too if I meant I could see those actors! I am very jealous!

Oh goodness! Texas is just so popular! Haha. I am glad you were able to get a history lesson while sitting in a restaurant.

Now THAT'S what I call a real date night. That's what Dan and I should have done for our 8th anniversary. We should have flown out to London just to see a show. Maybe for our 10 year anniversary. Ha!
