Piano Man...I Mean Woman...

This week I am in Fresno to finish refinishing our piano. It is the piano my mom had for about 30 years and now she is giving it to us. I'm not sure if that was her orignial plan but I claimed it for myself when I was 7 or 8. I made sure that my mom and all of my sisters knew that when mom was done with it, it was mine. I'm not sure why I did that, I don't really know how to play the piano beyond what I learned when I was little, but it probably stems from being the youngest and being afraid that I wouldn't get anything of my mom's since the violin, cedar chest and china cabinet have all been claimed. It is now ours since my mom bought an antique piano last year.

It's nothing fancy but it has loads of sentimental value and it is a good piano. The problem is that about 8 years ago, when we got the cats, they scratched it up something fierce. That is why we are refinishing it. Brent and I began sanding it a month or so ago and now this week, I am here in Fresno trying to get it all finished up. My parents are coming to LA in a few weeks to go to Disneyland with us and they are bringing the piano, finished or not. I'll post pictures of before and after once it's home. Does anyone know a good piano tuner? It's going to need some serious work in that department after we are done moving it around.

I plan on spending pretty much all day every day this week working on it. My skin is dry, I'm covered in sawdust and I'm pretty sure I've started sanding off some of my fingerprints but it will all be worth it once it's stained and done. I only wish Brent could have taken some time off to work on it with me and keep me company.

Emily, I am so jealous. Dan and I have been wanting a piano for quite some time. Nothing fancy. Just something that sits against the wall. I think it's wonderful that you get one that has been in the family for so long. Who cares if you don't know how to play it perfectly! You could take lessons. Lauri Alexander teaches piano lessons. Anyway, I can't wait to see the before and after pictures.

No fingerprints! I've been waiting for this day for years! This has "bank job" written all over it. I'll get my ski masks and wigs- you get your liquid nitrogen and duffle bag. Meet me at the train station in 3 hours.
